California Public Utilities Commission 505 Van Ness Avenue, Room 3107 San Francisco (wheelchair accessible) Investigation 98-12-013 seeks information on the Pacific Gas and Electric Company power outage that occurred on December 8, 1998. The investigation will also consider whether the Commission should enter any orders to ensure that a similar outage does not occur again. Parties have agreed to a series of workshops to consider recommendations for the prevention of a future such outage. Workshop 1 began on January 19, and will continue February 1 and 2, 2000. Workshop 1 addresses hardware issues, plus recovery strategies and procedures for response. Workshop 2 will be held on January 26 and 27, 2000. Workshop 2 will address incident reporting, corrective actions, audit program, safety and reliability issues, and labor relations. Workshop 3 will be held February 9 and 10, and will address procedures, workplace practices, plus command and control. Workshop 4 will be held February 23 and 24, and will address maintenance and equipment failure, plus post maintenance and modification testing. The dates for these workshops will be confirmed at the workshop on January 27, 2000, and subsequent workshops.
