GREGORY CONLON NOW CPUC PRESIDENT P. Gregory Conlon is now President of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). His colleagues elected Conlon President last December with the understanding that then president Daniel Wm. Fessler, who had served as President for the last four years, would continue until April 30 and then Conlon would take over. Conlon was appointed to the Commission for a six year term by Governor Pete Wilson on February 11, 1993. Prior to coming to the Commission, Conlon spent more than 30 years with Arthur Andersen & Co. auditing and consulting in the energy and telecommunications industries. He also served as an audit or audit advisory partner for a number of utilities in the Western United States. Conlon is a member of the California Transportation Commission, Vice-President of the Western Conference of Public Service Commissioners, and a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners' Communications Committee. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Society of CPAs, and the American Accounting Association. In 1991, he completed a comprehensive Executive Education Program at the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. President Conlon is active in civic affairs serving on the Boards of the Industry Education Council of California and the Industry Council for Technology in Learning. Both organizations are leading businesses in a significant effort to solve the education crisis in California. Conlon has also served on the Board of Directors for Self-Help for the Elderly, a large Chinatown social service organization in San Francisco. ###
