     PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETS IN SACRAMENTO JULY 17

     The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will hold
a decision-making meeting in Sacramento on Wednesday, July 17,
1996,  beginning at 10 a.m. in the Resources Building Auditorium,
1416 9th Street (between N and O Streets).
     Presiding at the meeting will be President P. Gregory
Conlon, and Commissioners Daniel Wm. Fessler, Jessie J. Knight,
Henry M. Duque, and Josiah L. Neeper.
     The Commission, which is headquartered in San Francisco,
meets regularly twice a month to decide rate, competition,
service and safety issues involving investor-owned energy,
telecommunications and water utilities, and transportation
companies.  Commission decisions and actions affect virtually
every individual and business in the state.
     The first 20 minutes of each decision-making meeting are
reserved for public comment on items on the day's agenda.  Each
person is allotted a few minutes depending upon the number of
individuals who sign up to speak.
     The Commission encourages the public to attend its meetings.
The meeting site is accessible to everyone.  If special
