Kim was awarded $43,096 for her participation over a five- year period in both the cellular and electric utilities aspects of an EMF study initiated by the Commission. Besides submitting comments and attending prehearing conferences, Kim was an active member of the five-member EMF Cellular steering committee which planned and held an informational workshop on EMF health effects. Kim spoke on public health, community value and environmental issues and assisted the CPUC in setting cellular subscriber safeguards. The Public Utilities Code provides for a fund derived from utility customer rates to reimburse groups or individuals that are not associated with the CPUC or a utility who have had an impact on a CPUC decision and can show financial hardship. The CPUC then orders the utility or utilities involved to reimburse these participants. In this case, Los Angeles SMSA L.P., Los Angeles Cellular Telephone Company, AirTouch Cellular, U.W. West Cellular of California, Inc., Bay Area Cellular Telephone Company, and GTE Mobilnet of California L.P. will each pay Kim an equal share of the compensation amount. ###
