       CPUC APPROVES SAN GABRIEL WATER REVENUE INCREASE

    The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today
authorized a $2.7 million or 11.8 percent revenue increase for
San Gabriel Valley Water Company (San Gabriel), Los Angeles
Division, effective in five days.  Increase covers operating
costs.
    San Gabriel serves 45,000 customers in the San Gabriel
Valley.  The residential customer using the monthly average of
2,250 cubic feet of water will see an increase of $1.96 or 6.7
percent, from the current $29.31 to $31.27.
    The company originally asked for a $4.7 million or 22
percent increase for this year. The $2.7 million approved today
results from a settlement between San Gabriel and the CPUC
Division of Ratepayer Advocates which represents the interests
of all customer classes.
    The rate of return is set at 10.03 percent; return on
common equity is 10.3 percent.
