   CPUC COMMISSIONER JOSIAH NEEPER'S OFFICE HOURS IN SAN DIEGO
    California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) Commissioner
Josiah Neeper will hold "office hours" in San Diego on Friday,
April 4 from 9 a.m. to noon.  This is an opportunity for
individuals or groups interested in Commission activities to talk
one-on-one with a decision-maker.
    Appointments to meet with Commissioner Neeper on April 4 can
be made by calling the CPUC Public Advisor's Office at 213-897-
3544.  The office hours will be held at the State Building in
downtown San Diego, 1350 Front Street, Room 4006.
    Commission policies, decisions, and actions affect virtually
every individual and business in California.  The Commission
regulates investor-owned telecommunications, electric, natural
gas, and water companies.  It oversees licensing and safety of
household goods moving companies, airport shuttles, limousines,
and tour buses, and safety of railroad operations.
    Fast-paced change is occurring in the telecommunications and
electric industries.  In telecommunications, customers can choose
among different companies for telecommunications services
including local phone service.  Beginning in January 1998, this
kind of choice also will be available for electric services.
    Commissioner Office Hours are one of several ways the
Commission seeks to improve public accessibility to the
Commission, to involve more people throughout the state in
decision-making, and to answer questions about the changes in
utility regulation the Commission is making.  Office hours also
have proved to be an effective means for the public to alert
Commissioners to their individual concerns and community
interests.
