CPUC Commissioner Neeper to hold Office Hours in San Diego

You say you want to speak to someone in charge? Well, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) hears you and on Wednesday, December 10, from 9 a.m. to noon, Commissioner Josiah L. Neeper - one of our five commissioners - will be in San Diego at the State Building at 1350 Front Street, Room 4006 to meet face to face with consumers, groups, or community leaders. Call the Public Advisor's office at 213-897-3544 to set-up an appointment.

The CPUC regulates investor-owned telecommunications, electric, natural gas, and water companies. It oversees the safety of railroad operations, including light rail transit. It also oversees licensing and safety of household goods moving companies, airport shuttles, limousines, and tour buses. The Commission policies, decisions or actions for these companies affect virtually every individual and business in California.

For example, fast-paced change is occurring in the telecommunications and electric industries. In telecommunications, customers can choose among different companies for telecommunications services including local phone service. Beginning in January 1998, this kind of choice also will be available for electricity purchases.

Commission Office Hours are one of several ways the Commission seeks to improve public accessibility to the Commission, to involve more people throughout the state in decision-making, and to answer questions about the changes in utility regulation. Office hours also have proved to be an effective means for the public to alert Commissioners to their individual concerns and community interests.
