T-15717) CPUC UPDATES FOR LIFELINE PROGRAM INCOME LEVELS The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today adjusted income levels that telephone utility companies use to determine whether customers are eligible for the Universal Lifeline Telephone Service (Lifeline), a low-income assistance program. The new schedule goes into effect March 8, 1995, through March 7, 1996. The income levels are: Household Size Income Limitation 1 - 2 $16,100 3 18,900 (For each additional member, add $3,800) The levels adopted today reflect a 2.6 percent inflation rate based on the Federal Consumer Price Index for urban areas. The amount last year for a 1 or 2-member household was $15,700, for a 3-member household, $18,400, and for each additional member, $3,700. Telephone companies use the updated figures to adjust the Household Income Limitation requirements for the Lifeline program, which enables a low-income person or household to obtain basic telephone service at a reduced rate. -###-
