         CPUC TO VOTE ON ELECTRIC RESTRUCTURING PROPOSAL

    The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announced
today that it expects to consider and vote on a proposal to
restructure California's electric industry and reform regulation
at its regularly scheduled meeting on December 6.
    The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the Auditorium of the
State Building, 505 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, California.
The electric restructuring proposal will be one of many items on
the agenda and will be considered first.
    Commission President Daniel Wm. Fessler stated, "We know
Californians and others throughout the nation and world are
keenly interested in our proposal.  In addition to this
announcement, I wish to assure those interested that we will
make information immediately available through the news media and
on the Internet."


    Due to the volume of business the Commission must handle
before the end of the year, it will begin public deliberations at
9 a.m. at its meetings on December 6 and December 20.
