 CPUC SCHEDULES HEARING FOR SAN GABRIEL RATE INCREASE REQUEST

    The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announces
hearings to receive public comments about a San Gabriel Water
Company (San Gabriel) request to increase rates $4.7 million or
22 percent in 1996 in the Los Angeles County division serving
San Gabriel Valley. The hearings will be:

              Monday, December 11 - 2 and 7 p.m.
   South El Monte Council Chambers, 1415 Santa Anita Avenue
    Hearings rooms are wheelchair accessible.  Special
accommodations, such as language interpreters, can be made by
calling the CPUC Public Advisor office at 213-897-3544.

    San Gabriel serves 45,000 customers in the San Gabriel
Valley.  If approved, the residential monthly service charge
will increase 26 cents from the current $7.55 to $7.81.  Water
use rates will increase 20 cents per hundred cubic feet of
water from the current $0.97 to $1.17.  Residential customers
who use the systemwide average of 2,300 cubic feet of water a
month will see an increase in the monthly bill of $4.82 from
the current $29.79 to $34.61.
