Subject: Schedule for Preparation of the October 30 DAWG-D Report

This note is to inform you of the schedule of events to come as we prepare the October 30 report of the Consumer Protection and Education group. You have probably seen Chris King's letter dated September 20, 1996, advertising the availability of a first draft of the report on October 8 and soliciting your interest in receiving a copy, either in hard copy or electronic form. In case you have not received his letter and are interested in receiving a copy of the October 8 draft, please fax Chris a note indicating whether you want it in hard copy or email form. Material and an outline proposed for the October 30 report have been distributed in several forms and discussed in DAWG-D meetings since August 30. In order to get your comments or alternatives to these offerings included in the October 8 draft, you must submit them in writing, no later than October 4, in electronic format (MS Word preferably), as a file attachment to email or a file on diskette, to the chapter authors as indicated in the minutes of the September 12 meeting of DAWG-D (previously distributed via email, fax and DRA website). Faxes will be accepted if the material is only a paragraph or two.

In the minutes of the September 12 meeting, we announced a meeting on October 15. THAT MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELED! In its place is a meeting on October 22, in San Diego, at a location to be announced. The meeting will be from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the October 8 draft, as amended with comments of the parties, which are to be submitted to chapter authors and the editor-in-chief by October 15.

To clarify, the schedule of events is as follows:

• By October 4 -- submit comments to chapter authors on issue drafts that have been discussed in meetings and posted on DRA's website/faxed/emailed through September 30;

• Prior to October 8 -- parties wanting a copy of the October 8 draft notify Chris King;

• October 8 -- first draft of the October 30 DAWG-D report distributed;

• October 15 -- cutoff date for sending comments/alternatives to draft chapter authors and editor-in-chief (name to be announced);

• Prior to October 22 -- chapter authors will attempt to distribute revisions in advance of October 22 meeting via email and DRA website the chapters revised from October 15 comments;

• October 22 -- DAWG meeting in San Diego to discuss the draft report; (hard copies of revised chapters will be available at the meeting);

• By October 25 -- all revisions received and incorporated into a final draft chapters and submitted to editor-in-chief;

• October 28 -- all chapters incorporated into camera-ready report document;

• October 30 -- Final Report filed and distributed.
