Thursday 10/9 Meeting of Meter Reading/MDMA Subgroup

There will be a meeting on Thursday, October 9 of the MDMA Subgroup at the
John Wayne Airport in Orange County, from 9 am to noon. I will provide the
room location as soon as I obtain it.

The purpose of this subgroup, and that of the Meter
Acceptance/Certification Group is to prioritize metering issues to ensure
they are resolved timely so that Direct Access metering can be ready for
January 1. The other subgroups are focused on Meter Installation,
Maintenance & Testing and Meter Device Certification. The Certification
subgroup will meet at the same location on Thursday afternoon, from 1 pm to
4 pm, as I understand it.

Our goal is, at present, to prioritize MDMA Issues as outlined in the
attachment and communicate those priorities to the CPUC. We hope to make
sure the CPUC addresses these issues in the MDCS decision now scheduled for
the October 20 CPUC meeting. We may also discuss contingency plans in the
event the CPUC decision is delayed or fails to address key issues.

Anyone receiving this e-mail is welcome to attend. The "To:" list is those
who attended the scoping meeting in San Diego yesterday.
