Dear MDMA-UG,
Re the 2/23 agenda, I would like to be sure MDMA-UG participants are
aware of the ongoing Universal Node Identifier System (UNIS) effort.
This would tie into items 5 and 7 of your agenda. My suggestion is to
make UNIS item 5, move DQI to item 6, etc.
As you probably know, the RSIF decision ordered a UNIS Working Group to
answer some fundamental implementation questions. This Group met for
the first time on 1/29 and is planning to issue a report to the CPUC on
3/2, so having some discussion on 2/23 would be very valuable at this
time. The decision also favored implementation during 1998, so one goal
of the UNIS Report is to identify needed steps to establish the basic
UNIS framework among all relevant parties this year. MDMAs will, of
course, be very important participants in this implementation, so it
would be very helpful to have a group brainstorm on this on 2/23.
